Where to find non-binary & trans-inclusive hot springs in Japan. Includes LGBTQ+ friendly onsen, private baths, and old-fashioned co-ed pools. I am gay male visiting Tokyo in late May and am looking for gay attractions. Is anyone able to tell me if these things exist and where to find them? Specific names would be helpful so I can check them out in advance before my trip.
With 8 floors, the 24 Kaikan Shinjuku features a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, solarium, video room, private cabins, snack room, lockers. The rooftop floor has tanning beds and a cold bathtub. Cabins are expensive, so actions take place in the common areas. Foreigners are welcome your passport may be required. Remove your shoes and change into slippers.
Purchase a ticket from the vending machine and give it the front desk. You'll receive a key and a bag with a robe and a towel. Rooms for rent are available. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They give you a key for your locker same as your shoe locker as well as a green bag with a gown, big towel and small towel. After storing my clothes and changing, I went to the 3rd floor and spent about an hour in the bathing area.
Between men shuffled in and out, ranging in age from 20s to 50s. All types. I made eye contact with a few guys but nothing transpired. I eventually made my way to the 4th floor and saw quite a bit of action going on in the dimly lit common rooms. Dudes would stop by and watch, then continue about their business. An older naked man was asleep and snoring in the corner so that was a new experience for me.
If not, there are private rooms for more money. I will definitely be going back next time I visit Japan. Very original Japanese-style sauna. Very clean and quiet. Friday evening, there were quite a few people. Locals and foreigners. We're going back today!
